Choosing the Right Company

This is most definitely a puzzling question for those searching for a legitimate professional service provider of any industry.

First of all, a Pest Control Service Company is different from a Wildlife Control Service Company. A pest control service company utilizes regulated contaminates and poisons to resolve an insect or arthropod issue such as roaches, ants, spiders, etc. A wildlife control service provider utilizes mechanical methods to resolve a wildlife related issue or problem such as moles, gophers, coyotes, beaver, squirrels, bats and even honey bees … and a wildlife control service company is completely “green” in relation to the latest environmental movement.

There are those companies in the wildlife industry, that are strictly “exclusionist” when it comes to wildlife, and then there are those like Oklahoma Wildlife Control® Limited Liability Company of Tulsa, Oklahoma … who are dedicated to resolving human and animal conflicts for their clientele all over the State of Oklahoma.

It has been said before, and it will be said again … exclusion by itself limits for a short time the wildlife’s ability to gain entry into your structures, where as a proper removal of the nuisance species is the more professional way to resolve the issue with damaging wildlife. Oklahoma Wildlife Control® Limited Liability Company will then exclude the structure by repair or closure, to ensure that the possible “future” species cannot gain entrance after the initial wildlife issue is resolved.

It’s kind of like patching a hole in a boat that is leaking in water. You have to remove the water first, and then fix the hole. A patch will eventually falter and allow water to return to the inside of the boat. Water will find a way back in to the boat, just as wildlife will find another way back into your structure if they are left on your property and not removed.

Another problem we are seeing more and more with our industry, or more to the point those in it that only perform exclusion work, is that most of those companies sell to their customers, a lot of extra unneeded exclusion materials and equipment. This increases the customer expenditures that would not normally have to occur if the wildlife problems are addressed correctly.

Following is a statement taken from a proper service provider in another state:

“I got a call from a lady yesterday who had called my competition first. The other company told her they would remove the raccoons in her attic by using chloroform to knock the raccoons out. I had a hard time believing anyone would even dream this up to tell a customer..... so I scheduled the client, and then called the other company to see what they were telling people. It was sickening the way they tried to reel me in with scare tactics, and lies. I never let on that I wasn't a client, but It would make a good show wouldn't it? Something along the lines of a mystery shopper, who writes reviews about the experience. In the review, the name and phone number of that company should be included.” ~ Mile Flick – Owner of Anytime Animal Control.

These types of scare tactics are being used more and more by all service providers everyday, especially in this slumped economy. Don’t allow yourself to get taken by a service provider.

Following are some questions that should be asked before acquiring the services of a Professional Wildlife Service Provider:

  1. How long have you been in business? This question is not to be confused with how many years in the Pest control business. Controlling insects is very different from controlling wildlife.
  2. Have you ever had to file a claim for damages that you or your company has caused?
  3. Have you ever had a complaint filed against yourself, employees, contractors or company?
  4. Do you have previous client references?
  5. Do you exclude wildlife only, or will you remove it?
  6. Do you offer any warranty or guarantee of craftsmanship and work?
  7. Do you hold the applicable license and permits required by the State Wildlife Department and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Department?
  8. Do you offer a variety of control options? Exclusion, trapping, eviction, habitat modification or maybe even suggesting that nothing be done?
  9. Do you offer a complete contract or service agreement with the job details?
  10. Do you provide services according to the client preferences and in accordance with local laws?

Oklahoma Wildlife Control® Limited Liability Company in Tulsa, OK … proudly provides answers to all of these questions without hesitation. We are as proud of the services and solutions we provide, as our clientele is to have the final results when we are finished on a particular job. Wildlife Issues Resolved.

“Do it yourself” Wildlife Control

On a daily basis here at the Oklahoma Wildlife Control® Limited Liability Company, with offices in Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, we receive a particularly common question from clients and the public in general. That question is: “How do I remove the animal myself, and then what do I need to do with it?”

To us … this is a loaded question, as we are not in the wildlife and animal control industry as an advisory source. For a fee, the OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C.  will provide consultations and training for proper wildlife removal and handling, but we do not make it a habit or practice of “talking” someone through the process over the telephone or email. So if you happen to attempt the removal or handling of a species on your own, then you choose to do so at your own risk of infections, damages and injury … and the OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C. will in no way be held responsible or liable.

The removal and handling of wildlife requires proper training and understanding of the wildlife species in question. This cannot be performed in a telephone or email conversation. Reginald Murray, the Co-Owner and Founder of the OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C.  has more than 20 years of handling experience with various species of wildlife … and he freely admits to learning something new every time a species is encountered or handled.

Along with the potentially harmful attacks that you can receive from a wildlife encounter, you will face the inherent dangers of contracting a disease from the wildlife species during the encounter. Now, does this mean that you will contract a wildlife associated disease, or that you are always faced with this contraction danger? The answer to this question is “No” … but untrained, you will greatly increase your exposure risk to disease and injury to say the least. In the combined experiences of the staff at OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C., it is their understanding that better than 90% of the attacks reported were due to improper handling of a wildlife species.

The “How To” deal with wildlife as a problem. Well … you can’t legally “night shoot” any wildlife species outside of the established season, in the State of Oklahoma, without first receiving a night shooting permit from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation … which to our knowledge, are only authorized under a specific Depredation Control Permits, and on that permit is specifically states “Night Shooting Authorized”. So shooting the skunk off of your trashcan on a June midnight is illegal.

So you have managed to trap the species in question … what to do with it now? While you are searching the internet to find information on what you can do with the wildlife species you have captured … understand that you cannot hold the wildlife species for longer than 24 hour without specific authorization from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife & Conservation. You cannot legally relocate any wildlife species in the State of Oklahoma on any privately held properties, without the landowners written permission, and it has to be a minimum of 5 miles outside of a city’s limits. You cannot release wildlife on public lands without first obtaining written authorization for the release from the controlling entity of the property in question. Then you also have to consider the Oklahoma Department of Health. It is stated in their regulations that any “rabies vectored” wildlife species cannot be released outside of the county that the wildlife was captured in. By the way … did you find out if the species that you have captured is a protected species or not? Then uh oh … we wouldn’t want to be in your shoes if it is protected.

What has been stated is just the beginning of what you will encounter when attempting to resolve a problem yourself. The OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C.  of Tulsa, Oklahoma offers wildlife control, removal, relocation, exclusion and consultation services to alleviate your problems. If you want something done, you call a professional. By the way … the OK Wildlife Control®, L.L.C. of Tulsa and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma guarantees that their fees for professional services will beat the hospital emergency rooms 100% of the time.
